TENFORCE is an active partner in the LOD 2 initiative. The goal of the LOD2 project is to develop infrastructure technology and best practices that fill the chasm between structured-linked-data and applied model logic & reasoning, en route redefining the Web as we know it. In doing so, LOD2 will integrate and syndicate linked data with large-scale existing applications and showcase the benefits in three application scenarios including Media & Publishing, Corporate Data Intranets and eGovernment.
SPECIAL is part of a series of research activities funded through the EC Horizon 2020 to investigate diverse aspects of innovative technologies like big data. Other members of the research partnership include Proximus, Deutsche Telekom, Thomson Reuters and leading universities from France, Germany and Austria.
The SPECIAL project will address the tension between Big Data innovation and privacy-aware data protection by proposing a technical solution that makes both of these goals realistic.
Westtoer is a public agency supporting the tourism sector in the coastal area of Belgium. It manages and creates new tourist products such as hiking trails and cycling routes.
It supports local communities in their activities and drives the marketing and web presence for the coastal area.
Westtoer has set up a central data hub containing tourist information used in several applications. Today not all data providers of the relevant data supply high quality data access service. The data hub centralizes and hence simplifies access to the data for the applications, while also guaranteeing a better quality of service (data quality and access quality). Westtoer selected Linked Data as the data integration and publication technology to achieve this objective.
In 2015 TENFORCE was selected as the partner to further professionalize the data hub architecture and lead it towards a full self-sustainable system. Its combined experience of Linked Data modeling and open source (Linked Data) technology, together with the ability to deliver a professional service were the key decision factors to its selection.
Wolters Kluwer is a global information services and publishing company, which provides expert legal content to legal practitioners in the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe through their Wolters Kluwer portals. The European Wolters Kluwer solution platform includes official and specialist law-related data. In Europe it serves as a gateway for official European Union publications. Wolters Kluwer Global needed a solution to manage the publishing process in a European context, feeding a multitude of portals and publications, and sourcing from central and decentralized data sets alike.
From 2008 to 2011 TENFORCE built a multilingual publishing solution based on semantic concepts and techniques, such as application of semantic data exchange standards for the European portals and integration of the legal content metadata.
Thanks to the metadata-based design that TENFORCE implemented, end users can now search the content irrespective of their language as it is indexed across countries and languages. The solution also allows for cross-linking of content published on different portals, which increases the value of the user’s search results.
In 2013 TENFORCE developed a solution for Wolters Kluwer Deutschland (WKD) to manage the metadata in a separate repository. This way WKD could link and enrich their metadata with external and internal vocabularies. The metadata was stored in a Virtuoso triple store.
In a next phase TENFORCE built an API to the WKD production system to ingest the rich legal content and metadata from the Publications Office of the EU.
The European Skills, Competences and Occupations (ESCO) taxonomy is a key element in the policy to considerably improve the matching of jobs with vacancies throughout Europe.
Within this project Dacota One is designing, developing and managing a multilingual taxonomy of European skills, competences, qualifications and occupations to help DG EMPL foster labour mobility across EU member states.
To measure inflation across E.U., various National Statistical Institutes (NSI) across Europe compile scanner data generated by point-of-sales terminals in retail shops.
These NSIs define their own methodologies for linking scanner data to ECOICOP (European Classification of Individual Consumption according to Purpose) and identifying product replacements (i.e. “relaunches”). The objective of the project is to offer a common and multilingual methodology to NSIs currently not using scanner data to streamline and increase the volume of processed data. The result should improve the quality level for HCIP output.
TENFORCE participated in a NATO NCIA research project investigating solutions to facilitate information sharing among NATO information systems. Within this objective NATO NCIA applies semantic technologies to support mapping of information semi-automatically between their data sharing protocols. Dacota One contributed in the design of the specification language for this mapping.
